Alexander Technique Class

The Alexander Technique is a way of working on your body, giving it self-sufficiency to move sustainably again; with a new ease, grace and comfort in all areas of life.

Each of us has our own unique way of walking, sitting and moving, and this shifts through time with our changing moods and level of fatigue. Stress, overtension, harmful habits and injuries can disrupt the optimal coordination of our whole body in the longer-term.

We need this coordination to function smoothly, and these disruptions introduce changes into our movement so that what once was easy and effortless becomes more difficult and even painful, usually without us noticing. The subtlety of the changes means we may still feel "normal".

Tuesday, August 28, 2018 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm

Balance, Voice and Emotions

What do I look like, to others, when I'm...?

The way we move says a lot about ourself.
This workshop explores the habitual tensions we carry around with us, our reactions to stress, performance anxiety and pain, and what those things "do" to our bodies and to our voice. We'll look at lots of practical tips and tools to manage and understand our habits and reflexes better.

“You translate everything, whether physical, mental or spiritual, into muscular tension.” F.M.Alexander.

In this 2- hour workshop, you will be introduced to several key principles and exercises drawing on the Alexander Technique. Through these, we will explore and develop your use of your body as a tool for everyday challenges.

This workshop focuses on breathing, awareness, control and body tension, and aims to give you a set of portable skills for life.

All abilities and levels of experience.
Absolute beginners are welcome!
Max 14 participants.
Please wear comfortable clothes.
Booking is strongly recommended to ensure a place.

Death & Alexander Technique - A workshop by David Young

Death & Alexander Technique
A workshop by David Young

This workshop explores three aspects of death: life expectancy, supporting someone who is dying, and the afterlife. Participants are invited to examine this inevitable but often ignored topic through discussion, exchange and practical exercises based on Alexander Technique. No previous experience necessary.

David Young is an Alexander Technique teacher, music composer and former-artistic director of the Australian Chamber Made Opera company. He has a background in art, sport, tai chi and mental health. David was inspired to develop this workshop after supporting a close friend who died of cancer. More info at davidyoung.de
