Dominic Harbinson

I began my training in Chinese medicine with a 3-year full time course in acupuncture at the College of Integrated Chinese Medicine in Reading, graduating in 2000. I followed this up with a 2-year Post-Graduate Diploma in Chinese Herbal Medicine at the London College of Traditional Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine, graduating in 2005. I then spent an intensive and very inspiring 3 months doing further clinical training at the Chengdu Traditional Chinese Medicine University Hospital in Sichuan Province, China, returning again in 2006 for further training in a private clinic in Chengdu.

In addition to my work at Concorde House Clinic in Canterbury, I work for the NHS as in-house acupuncturist for the Saddleton Road and Seasalter Surgeries in Whitstable and run a weekly clinic in Notting Hill, London.

I worked as a volunteer at the NHS Gateway Clinic in Lambeth Hospital for 2004-05 to boost my clinical experience. The Gateway Clinic serves the London boroughs of Southwark, Lewisham and Lambeth providing acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine treatment for general health problems as well as for immune deficiency problems, mental health and addictions. It is widely recognised for its pioneering work with HIV and Hepatitis C.

I serve on the editorial board of the European Journal of Oriental Medicine (www.ejom.co.uk) and has published articles on acupuncture in the treatment of psychosis and on the treatment of pre-menstrual syndrome (PMS) using Chinese herbal medicine. In 1979 I won a Demyship to read English at Magdalen College, Oxford and then, almost 20 varied and enjoyable years later, in 1997, I was awarded a First Class Honours degree from Wye College, University of London.

As a member of the British Acupuncture Council (BAcC) and the Register of Chinese Herbal Medicine (RCHM), I hold full professional insurance and am bound by these organisations' Codes of Professional Conduct and Good Practice.
